20 questions

Who are we, and who receives a donation?
About the chapter

We are Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 210, serving Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The chapter’s EIN is 33-1947285. A gift intended for Chapter 210 should name the chapter as the recipient. If a separate Department-administered project is proposed, its paperwork must identify that recipient and purpose before you give.

What makes this organization different?
About the chapter

Chapter 210 brings Purple Heart recipients together around a shared experience of combat wounds and continued service. That personal connection supports local fellowship, public remembrance, veteran outreach, and work across generations. Our local focus makes it possible for supporters to speak directly with chapter leadership about the work.

Do you help only Purple Heart recipients?
About the chapter

Purple Heart recipients are at the center of our membership and remembrance mission. Our service and community efforts also reach other veterans and their families. Fellow combat veterans, family members, and community volunteers can participate in projects without being presented as Purple Heart recipients. Contact the chapter about formal membership eligibility.

What would my donation be used for?
Your gift

Discuss the purpose that matters to you: veteran and family outreach, public recognition and youth education, chapter operations supporting that work, or the proposed 2028 traveling museum visit. For the museum, potential needs include transportation and hosting, the venue and accessibility, veteran participation, equipment, and educational outreach. Final amounts and commitments require an approved scope and budget.

Can I support one specific project?
Your gift

Yes—start by telling us the project or purpose you want to support. Request written confirmation that the chapter can accept and use a gift for that purpose, along with any conditions, before contributing. The inquiry form records your preference; it does not create an accepted restricted gift.

How much goes to programs versus administration?
Your gift

A verified allocation percentage is not published here. Necessary operating costs can include communication, insurance, equipment, and approved event support. Ask for the relevant project budget or available financial information so you can review program and operating costs together.

What is the 2028 fundraising goal?
Your gift

A final dollar goal has not been announced. The committee needs the museum’s hosting requirements, a proposed venue, and cost estimates before setting a defensible target. Supporters can request a budget discussion or offer an in-kind contribution while that plan develops.

Is my contribution tax-deductible?
Documents & accountability

Tax treatment depends on the receiving organization’s current eligibility and the type of contribution. An EIN alone does not establish deductibility. Request the recipient’s current tax-exemption and contribution-eligibility documentation before relying on a deduction. IRS rules allow deductions for qualifying war veterans’ organizations under specific conditions. Read the IRS guidance.

Can I request a W-9, tax documentation, or financial information?
Documents & accountability

Yes. Use the document-request option on the giving page to request the receiving organization’s W-9, current exemption documentation, the proposed project budget, and available financial reports. Leadership can confirm what is available and identify any materials still being prepared. An EIN record is not an IRS determination letter.

Will I receive a receipt?
Documents & accountability

Ask the receiving organization to confirm its acknowledgment process before giving. Provide the donor name and contact details that should appear in the acknowledgment. The website’s inquiry summary is not a donation receipt. For an in-kind contribution, agree on acceptance and documentation before delivery.

Who oversees the 2028 project?
Documents & accountability

Devin Harris chairs the committee leading project planning and coordination. Chapter 210 is the local lead, with Department of California support and opportunities for other chapters to participate. Chapter leadership and finance officers should be included in discussions about accepting funds, approving expenditures, and documenting results.

How will I know what my support accomplished?
Documents & accountability

Ask the committee to include the reporting plan in your sponsorship or gift discussion: approved purpose, budget, milestones, and the updates you will receive. Useful project measures include veterans participating, public and student attendance, volunteer service, activities delivered, and actual spending. Published results will need to be based on completed work.

Is Chapter 210 building a museum?
The 2028 museum

The plan is to bring an existing traveling Purple Heart museum to Long Beach. The National Purple Heart Honor Mission in Newburgh, New York, has announced a Mobile Tribute & Education Center that aligns with this vision. Chapter 210’s local hosting arrangement is still being developed.

Are the museum, venue, and dates confirmed?
The 2028 museum

The chapter has identified the 2028 hosting goal and Devin Harris as committee chair. A confirmed booking, host venue, exact dates, final budget, and participant list have not been published. Ask the committee for the latest planning status before making a project-specific commitment.

Is this an official Olympic event or sponsorship?
The 2028 museum

This is an independent Chapter 210 initiative proposed for summer 2028 in Long Beach. Official affiliation with LA28 or the Games has not been established. A contribution does not provide Games tickets, official sponsorship rights, or permission to use protected branding.

What if the museum visit changes or cannot happen?
The 2028 museum

For a designated 2028 contribution, request written terms addressing postponement, cancellation, unused funds, and any permitted alternative use before giving. Those terms should be agreed by the donor and receiving organization. This site does not promise refunds or automatic reassignment of project-specific gifts.

Can my business sponsor the project or provide services?
Ways to help

Explore Founding Partner, Transportation Sponsor, Veteran Visit Sponsor, Education Sponsor, and In-Kind Partner opportunities on our giving page. Package prices, recognition, and benefits will follow the approved scope and budget and be agreed in writing. Start with a sponsorship inquiry.

Can I give through a foundation, matching program, DAF, stock, or wire?
Ways to help

Tell the chapter which giving method you prefer. Eligibility, acceptance, and instructions must be confirmed with the receiving organization and, where relevant, your sponsoring institution. Secure instructions for a bank transfer or specialized gift are provided directly after that review.

Can combat veterans join the 2028 effort?
Ways to help

That is part of the vision. Purple Heart recipients, fellow combat veterans, and families can express interest in attending, sharing experiences, or volunteering. Participation and any story recording will be coordinated by the committee and museum operator. The website is not a confirmed event registration. Use the project interest form to choose veteran participation or volunteering and receive updates. This is not a confirmed reservation.
